Natural-looking French Manicure — DIY

After I quit stripping, I stopped polishing my nails (or wearing fakes). I polished my nails as a teen and it was a never-ending cycle of smudging the polish before it dried or having perfect polish chip within a day. I like the natural-nail look and found a buffing paste that really made my nails shine. Of course, they stopped making it within a couple years of my discovery. I started using a white nail pencil under my nails but without a shine on top, it wasn’t that impressive. I still wanted shiny nails, but natural. Polish wasn’t the answer because I wasn’t kind to it (and paying for a professional polish was a waste of money). I’m not someone who likes acrylics or the new gel manicures. And I hate the very strippery look of the typical French manicure you get in a salon. I like to let my nails breathe. They’re strong and healthy — I don’t need to ruin them with chemicals. I wanted an elegant solution. P-Shine About four years ago, I griped about my nail woes to a girlfriend and surprisingly, she had the answer. P-Shine! It’s a classic buffing kit for fingers and toes. Yes, this means there are 2-4 steps (depending on your needs). Yes, they include detailed instructions. Yes, it takes about an hour to do your hands start to finish if you have to do every step. Be prepared to have little crumbles of the buffing clay and polishing powder all over the place when you’re done. But the mega-shine is so worth it. It looks like you’ve applied clear...

Help Me Choose!

I have a new, very helpful ebook on its way! Seriously, we’re talking a matter of weeks. I can’t make up my mind over which cover to choose. So…I need your help. Tell me which you find more appealing. It doesn’t matter if you have no intention of buying the book, which cover would make you want to buy it? The concept of the book is simple: a huge listing of possible advertising malls and discussion boards for US Internet escorts (collected by me since 2002), along with some other nice tidbits, like a listing of active escort web designers. This isn’t just a listing of links, though. I review each site and comment on what I think it offers an escort so that it helps you choose where to spend your advertising time and/or money. I include international listings too, many that I’ve used. As the title says, this is for ladies who wish to expand beyond Eros and Backpage. In my experience, more visitors to your site means more appointments. It’s important to be choosy if you’re going for a higher-end market, but if you’re in the mid-range, covering more territory doesn’t hurt. Working on your site’s SEO is the next step, but it’s not covered in this ebook and I doubt I will write about it. There are plenty of free online guides for making the most of your site’s Googleability. The ebook will retail for $4.99, with discounts for newsletter readers and those who have purchased other books from me (expect those announcements once I have a firm release date). Without further ado…here are the...

Free Makeup Lessons

I love makeup. I’ve been fascinated since I was young. Part of it is my desire to be a painter (desire, but not the skill), part of it is simply the fun of dressing up. I’ve learned a lot from beauty magazines and personal experimentation. I’ve read every makeup book I’ve ever been able to get my hands on. Still, something has always been lacking. When I’ve been made up by professionals the lack is obvious. Then two things happened. Samantha Chapman On a recent beauty-book kick, I was in Ulta looking for some inexpensive new brushes to try. I came across Samantha Chapman’s brushes and bought two. Back home and online, I went to her website and watched several of her video tutorials. I’ve bought a couple more of her brushes and watch her tutorials regularly. She’s personable and her instructions are easy to follow. I like her brushes because they’re easy to use and her techniques are made for people who don’t like or can’t create fine, delicate lines of makeup. Most of her tutorials focus on simple looks that one would use in everyday life. It’s easy to get the same results she does because her brushes truly do what she claims they do. They’re cruelty-free synthetics, which makes them easy to wash. They’re shaped so they easily fit in the hand. They’re cheap for quality makeup brushes. Wayne Goss Shortly after discovering Chapman, I was discussing my makeup journey (or lack of it) with LaDonna Stein and she suggested that I look at Wayne Goss’s videos. I now watch him regularly as well. He’s extremely...

Boudoir Posing Ebook

Boudoir photographer Rachel Stephens has started sharing her secrets over the past year via workshops and selling Photoshop packages. Now she’s expanded to ebooks. Her current offer is an ebook on posing — sharing all the secrets of her instantly identifiable poses. You can download a free PDF preview of her ebook. The ebook itself is available for $15. She details every aspect of her poses, which is great for someone who is a not a professional model. This info is handy for models, photographers and DIY types. She also talks about her shooting style and equipment, which may be of interest to anyone who was intrigued with Megan Love’s interview. At some point I will probably order her Workshop in a Box, though I’m not interested in the pro-photographer aspects. I’m looking to improve my modeling abilities and have some fun creating sexy selfies. Anyone else on the same...

Adult Industry Truth Survey

The Adult Industry Truth Survey is an attempt by two sex workers to shed light on what consent and coercion looks like from the perspective of sex workers. Serpent Libertine and Crysta Heart have come together with the help of DePaul University to create the first sex worker-run survey of sex work. This is an academically-reviewed study and they plan to publish the results in academic journals as well as mainstream media. The website — AdultIndustryTruth.com — is full of information about the survey, which runs through July 2014. The survey is open to anyone who works with sex in the US. The website and survey is engineered for anonymity and safety. Consent is the gap that separates sex work from sex trafficking (and something I’ve discussed in real life with others). Consent makes the difference to sex workers and their experiences; it should make the difference in policy but unfortunately, it currently does not. The AIT survey aims to help illustrate that difference. Follow the button below to take the survey, feel free to repost this information anywhere you can. The larger the results, the more accurate the information will be. You can follow AIT on Twitter or...

Amazon MatchBook

It’s finally happened! Amazon is making it super-easy for readers to get Kindle versions of print books purchased through Amazon. It’s called Amazon MatchBook and yes, Golden Girl Press is participating. The Details Starting in October 2013, Amazon will allow anyone who has purchased a print book through Amazon to also purchase the Kindle (ebook) version of that book at greatly-reduced price. The price is set by the publisher, ranging from free to $2.99. MatchBook is retroactive back to 1995! The catches are: you have to have purchased the print book through Amazon (not a reseller) and the publisher has to have uploaded a Kindle version of the book. Obviously, if there isn’t a Kindle version available, you won’t be able to get it. I assume that publishers will start getting on board over the next year and soon readers can expect easily-available MatchBook purchases in the future. What I’ll Do For My Readers I’m embarrassed I didn’t think of this sooner. I guess I assumed those who bought the print books wouldn’t be interested in the ebook verson. I’m working out the details but in a couple weeks I will make sure that everyone who has purchased the print books through my site can download the ebook version of their purchase for free; and will make a print/ebook bundle available for purchase for all new readers. My MatchBook will be a little broader than Amazon’s because the .epub files available on my site can be read by many types of ereaders (I have the .mobi files available upon request for Kindle users). The Amazon MatchBook is limited only...

Interview: Megan Love Photography

Megan Love is a very busy escort. She’s an escort. The founder of SouthernGFE.com. And she has a growing photography business. She debuted her revamped photography site in the past year. It impressed me and I asked her to volunteer an interview. Not only is the quality of her work impressive, but her approach to photographing escorts is pitch-perfect. Basically, if I were to create the ideal escort photographer, it would be Megan. She’s a girl after my own heart. One of my big gripes with typical boudoir photographers is the amount of retouching — too much!* Usually the results are nice but no one can call the pictures “real.” Or…I’ve seen photographers who apparently don’t retouch at all, which doesn’t work for any woman who doesn’t look naturally-airbrushed. Megan strikes a very nice middle ground. Her subjects appear real and look good, without obvious manipulation of the image. She’s also a fan of natural light and continuous lighting as opposed to strobes. This means her lighting mimics what the eye naturally sees, giving her pictures an inviting feel. She has a very good eye for posing her models, which probably comes from her beginnings of shooting herself and learning what does and doesn’t look good. As if that weren’t enough, she believes that the photographer should make corrections during the shoot instead of in Photoshop! The last time I heard that view espoused was by my photo teachers in college. She admits she is still learning and is clearly open to experimenting with technique and collaborating with her models. Her portfolio will continue to grow and her models...

Interview: RentedDesign.com

I was recently spammed by an escort web designer who claimed a decade of experience. Besides the spamming (anyone who emails individuals without explicit opt-in permission violates anti-spam law), what really annoyed me was a website mock-up he provided using my photos. I called him on the copyright violation and he claimed my pictures weren’t copyrighted but he could “copyright” them for me for a fee (I think he was confusing copyright with watermark). My photographer owns the rights to my photos, the only right I have is the one to use them for my own promotion/advertising. That they aren’t copyrighted by this designer’s standards would no doubt have been unpleasant and infuriating news to my photographer. I had to be rude to get this guy to remove my mock-up from his site. All that energy he put into creating mock-ups for every escort he spammed could have been used toward legit marketing or coming up with some beautifully-creative designs for his current clients. Using a service-provider who markets aggressively is not a bad thing. Using someone who wastes their energy in completely unproductive ways is not someone I want — I’d rather have their attention on the work they’re doing for me. Just two days later, following escort links, I came across a gorgeous website and since the designer’s link at the bottom was unfamiliar to me, I clicked to the very attractive site of RentedDesign.com – a Canadian web design service for escorts utilizing WordPress as a CMS. Rented Design not only offers beautiful designs at reasonable rates (using WordPress!!) it is the design-boutique of G –...
